London 2010 - Comparing Youth Issues
This was TLFHD's first installation of the programme. In partnership with South London based community interest company Share Think and Act and North London based youth worker Jade Newton-Gardener, The Lily Foundation for Human Development took a contingent of fourteen to London to explore youth issues.
The participants visited the Riverside Youth Club in Deptford, London which catered to youths in the area by using the steelpan as means of keeping them off the streets and out of trouble. They also visited a pupil referral unit (pru) in Islington. The pru is a school type facility where students who are one step away from being expelled from school are sent to. They focus mainly on vocational training.
During this visit the participants spent an afternoon with Dr. Michael McMillan, producer of the BBC 4 documentary "The Front Room" which is a film about the living rooms of West Indian immigrants in Britain and the stories behind them.
